Bonnie Scotland
It has already been more than two weeks since my holidays in Scotland, but still I’m enjoying the beautiful experience it was. Ever since my last trip to Scotland in 2006 I was wishing to go back again, and the Monty Hall’s great escape documentary on BBC inspired me to book a week’s holiday there again. Arriving in Glasgow at Monday 26th of July felt like a bit of a home coming, I think I must have some Scottish roots somewhere
. Like last time, I booked and organised trip to the Highlands & Islands by bus, only this time I went for a five-day trip and a different provider and what a trip it was! At the day of departure we found ourselves in a fifteen person group, guide included, that shared almost all activities and got along really fine. Maybe also because of our guide Steve, who was an awesome story teller. As we passed the beautiful scenery we were travelling through the history & mythology of Scotland too: the tragedy in the life of Mary Queen of Scots, the freedom fights of William Wallace, the wars between the clans, the faeries of Skye, and the stories about King Robert the Bruce. I’ll never forget Steve’s emotional account of the battle of Culloden where many of the Highlanders were slain; a brutal tragedy. All in all, the stories really made the journey and were emphasised by the rough beauty of Scotland’s landscape. It was great to see the places I visited before again, Skye, Glen Coe, Eilean Donan Castle were again so impressive, but also the new locations we’ve visited, Glen Affric, Oban and wee town next to Loch Ness were definitely worth the while. Definitely, also the great company we were in and Steve’s flexibility with the journey’s scheme also added to a lasting impression. Add to that the warm welcome the Scots give you everywhere and all ingredients for fantastic journey are complete. So, again I had an awesome experience in the most beautiful country I’ve seen up till now, I know I will certainly try to get back there another time soon. Stay tuned for some photographs, or check my flickr account if you’re impatient.
