People that know me a bit, know also that I really dislike most Dutch food. However, I like a lot of foreign food, for example Italian, Chinese/Indonesian and as I discovered yesterday also Indian! Ever since the Namesake joined OUNL, I’ve been wondering about Indian food, and the smell of it when he was preparing it, made me wonder how it tasted. Unfortunately, all our plans for an “Indischer Abend’ up till now failed for some reason or the other; this until I told our ‘other’ Indian Daneesh ‘Ali’ Nadeem about my curiosity about his home country and the food. He immediately planned for an Indian dinner at his place and after some minor problems located the whereabouts of his humble aboad, I finally had my first tasting experience. And, I really liked it
Daneesh had prepared some really nice tiki(?) Masala, marinated chicken, and basmati rice, accompanied by roti and followed with pudding. Although it was prepared rather ‘mild’ as not to ‘burn my arse off’ I found not the spices to be the main problem, but more the sheer amount of food. While it did not seem that much at first, Daneesh and we found ourselves rather stuffed and not able to eat any more soon after (remember that Monty Python movie, something like that). After dinner, we watched a kind of weird, artistic, but funny movie about three American Brothers going to India on a spiritual journey (The darjeeling limited if I remember correctly), a good ending to the Indian themed eve. At 23.00 we went to our local pub, to try and fit some drinks on the big amount of consumed food. Soon after, Daneesh had to leave to pick up a friend, leaving me in good company of Anke. Not being able to fit another beer in my overcrowded stomach, I called it a day; the end of a splendid evening!
